Sad Messages From Heaven

Elena DesserichThis story is about messages of Elena Desserich. These hundred of very touching notes were written by Elena Desserich, a little 6 years old girl, who was diagnosed with a brain cancer. She passed away on August 2007 after the doctors stated that her brain cancer could not be operated when she was only 5.

She was struggling to fight the cancer for 9 months. She lived in Wyoming, US and hide hundreds of messages in the book pages, drawers, bags and winter clothes.




elena desserich messages“We found some of the messages written by Elena several days after her death,” said Elena’s father, Desserich, who runs a contruction company. “Somehow, piece by piece were found again everywhere and now they’re already in 3 big boxes.”

“We even found some notes in the bags to keep Christmas decorations,” added Desserich.

Elena’s family already bundled these notes into their diary that was especially dedicated to Elena during her struggling. The family plan to donate all the funds received from the selling of this diary titled Notes Left behind to the cancer research institution, Cure Starts Now Cancer Foundation.

elena desserich familyWhen Elena was diagnosed with a rare late stadium of brain cancer in 2006, the doctor told her parent that their eldest daughter only had a chance to survive approximately 135 days. The couple, Brooke and Keith Desserich, decided to make every single day left as a very special moment, for Elena and her younger sister, Gracie, who was 4 years old that time.

“We wanted to encourage her so that we never told her that her life chance was running out,” said Elena’s father. Brooke and Keith Desserich then made a special diary about Elena because they were worried that Gracie might forget her sister when she grows up. Elena herself was having so much interest on art and various reading books.

Elena had done a radiation for a month, but her stamina kept decreasing drastically. Elena soon lost her speaking ability and became paralyzed.

However, Elena kept trying for doing whatever she could. Until her death, she kept hiding messages and pictures to describe her love to her mom, father, grandpa and grandma, and her beloved dog, Sally.

Some notes simply just said “ I Love You” decorated with heart and flower pictures. Some of her notes dedicated by Elena to Gracie and one of them said “ I love you Gracie, Go Go.”

Elena Desserich’s parent is even keeping one un-opened message from Elena each. They do intentionally keep it un-opened in their bags. “It is our ways to keep her last note,” said Elena’s mother.

“We do not expect to find last note from her,” said Elena’s father. “ I hope to keep finding her messages for uo coming years.”

“ I think that those messages were Elena’s way to tell us that she’s going to be okay. Every time we get that message, we feel like getting a hug from her.”

Can’t hold my tears when I heard this news :(
