Flood in Manila, Philippines

The disaster caused by Ketsana storm is the worst happened in Manila over the last 40 years. The rain poured down for 12 hours non-stop and it is equal to rain for the whole month.


philippines flood victim 300x229 Flood in Manila, PhilippinesThousand of people in Manila are still trapped in their houses because of the great flood as the result of Ketsana tropical storm attack. Meanwhile, the death is up to 86 people on Monday morning, September 28th, 2009.

“The water flood is not moving,” said Nene Monfort who lived near Pasig river to ABS-CBN TV station. Monfort also mentioned that she and her family have to stay at their second floor apartment because the flood is still high.

The disaster caused by Ketsana storm is the worst happened in Manila over the last 40 years. The rain poured down for 12 hours non-stop and it is equal to rain for the whole month.

The Minister of Defense as well as the Chief Coordinator of National Disaster, Gilberto Teodoro, told to The New York Times that the Philippines Government will focus on rescue efforts. “We will concentrate to distribute the meal and other basic needs” said Teodoro.

More than 100.000 people are now living in 200 evacuation centers. The Government has announced the disaster status in 27 provinces out side Manila.

The Storm Centre which is in cooperation with the U.S Defence Department predicst that the Ketsana storm will move westward. Its strength will keep increasing before ending in Hue city, Middle Vietnam.

The U.S Embassy in Philippine has promised some support fund as much as U.S 50.000. They have also sent their Navy heading to Cainta city to distribute the basic need as well as to rescue people.

“The damage cause by this storm is tremendous” as spoken by U.S embassy spoke person, Rebecca Thompson, in an official statement on Sunday 27th.

Besides help from some Embassies, Organizations in Philipine and from all around the world have been starting to collect the support, either in the form of fund or basic needs.
