Not only to Nokia, but Apple also displaced Samsung as the second largest phone vendor in the world. Nokia and Samsung are now preparing their ultimate weapons to beat Apple.

Nokia and Samsung altogether cover up to 60% of the world’s cell phone market. However, their success is being thread by the Apple’s handset as well as by RIM for the Smartphone segment.

According to the Strategy Analytic data, Apple which is considered as a new “player” in the cell phone industry has been able to displace Nokia in the quarter 3 2009. The Apple’s operational profit reaches US$1.6 billion, which is significantly higher than Nokia with USD$ 1.1 billion.

Nokia answers this challenge by starting shipping out high end phones called N900, while Samsung announced that they will soon release a private mobile platform called Bada supported with an excellent Smartphone operation system.

N900 is the first Nokia phone with Linux Maemo operational system which is predicted to be the key of success to beat Apple. “Maemo platform will reflect the need of Nokia to present more powerful software compared to Apple and others,” said Ben Wood, the CCS Insight analyst.

“The Bada announcement by Samsung also indicated a similar thing. The question is, do the phone’s world need any additional operational system?,” he added. Samsung with its Bada operational system is planned to be released on the beginning of 2010.

Even though the competition is getting tighter, Nokia is somehow still the largest Smartphone manufacturer in the world in term of sales volume. Meanwhile, Samsung is a little behind from Apple, RIM and HTC Corp. In the future, the Smartphone competition is predicted to be heating up more.
