Jules Undersea Lodge
There are Top 5 underwater hotels, and the world’s first underwater hotel is known as the Jules Undersea Lodge, named after the famous author of Maritime Tale 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was built in the early 70’s with the original purpose as a groundbreaking research lab in the Puerto Rico offshore. It was then relocated into Key Largo, Florida, and taken into business as the underwater hotel in 1986. Many celebrities have been spotted in Jules’s Undersea Lodge, such as Steve Tyler (Aerosmith), John Fishman Phish, and even Pierre Trudeau, the former Canadian Prime Minister.
Because it is place underwater, then the visitors are required to have any diving certificate. However, if you are not a certified diver, you can take a 3-hours crash course in scuba diving, before you are allowed to be a guest in Jules. Besides that, extensive scuba certification courses as well as diving excursions are some other packages that you can have. All of these are required, because the hotel is 21 feet under the sea level. If you are a diving enthusiast, then the Undersea Park is a great bonus for you.
Soon after you arrive at the hotel entrance, you can now take your scuba clothe off, and start enjoying a great modern life 21 feel below the sea level. Just like any facilities that you can expect from a great hotel, Jules Undersea Lodge also provides you with all conveniences, starting from the air-conditioning, DVD player, stereo, hot showers, and etc. It is a perfect gateway place for those with adventurous spirits. Once you are into the Jules, you do not need to go up surface as all you need will be provided. Dinner and Breakfast will be served exactly at 6 p.m and 8 a.m by the world’s only “mer-chef”. The second place in the Top 5 Underwater Hotels is the Utter Inn. While other underwater hotels are still in the stage of planning or under construction, the utter inn had been completed in 2000. The constructor of this one-room inn is known as Mikael Genberg. The inn is built in Vasteras, Sweden with a focus on “making art for the public”
The utter in is located 3 m below the level of Lake Malaren which is around 1 km offshore. This inn appearance is similar to a Swedish red house with white gables. Once the guess enters the inn, they will be on their own. However, Mr.Genberg offers an extra service for an extra charge by delivering dinner to the guess.When you usually like to look into the aquarium, the Utter inn will give you the opposite experience. It is you who seem to be inside the aquarium with the fish looking at you. If you want to share this great experience in the Utter inn, you need to make an advance reservation, because it is fully booked, especially during the summer.
Hydropolis
The third place of the Top 5 Underwater hotels is Hydropolis, located in Dubai. Dubai boasts with its fabulous modern architectures in recent years and Hydropolis will certainly add the long list. The budget around $550 million has been allocated for this hotel construction. It will be built on the Persian Gulf floor around 66 feet under the sea level. The hotel will occupy approximately 27 acres. To accommodate the transportation to the hotel, a land station has also been designed which is connected by a 1700 feet transparent train tunnel directly to the hotel. This design will pretty much look like a jellyfish when completed. This magnificent hotel plans to accommodate 220 suites and will be built in the bubble-shaped. Further to this design, each room will have clear glass for the sleeping area and the bathtubs. If you are one of those sea-dwellers, you can start making a reservation at the end of 2009, when the Hydropolis is expected to be completed.Poseidon Undersea Resort
The next list in the Top 5 Underwater hotels is the Poseidon Undersea Resort. It is also still under construction stage in Fiji. This hotel is designed by Bruce Jones, an American submarine engineer. His works are much influenced by the novels of Jules Verne, and some other marine movies, such as the Amphibia Man. It is another 5-star hotel built 40 feet under the sea surface.A personal Triton will be provided for every guess at their disposal to explore the lagoon. If you want to have another tour exploring the sea’s depth, a 16-passenger luxury submarine will be available for the service. The hotel’s rooms are designed with transparent acrylic walls where the guess can even feed the fish swimming by. Besides the great underwater hotel, there is also a Poseidon Mystery Island in which artificially constructed to complete the resort’s facility. You can have the experience of staying in this magnificent hotel with $1500 per night. If you want to have the whole package of the Poseidon Mystery Island plus all the hotel accommodation, you must pay $3000 to enjoy this unforgettable experience. The Poseidon Undersea resort is opened at the end of 2008.
Underwater Hotel in Istanbul
Another underwater hotel is to be constructed in 2010. It is now Istanbul who has made an official announcement to build a 7 floors under sea level hotel.
Future plans for underwater hotels
If you do not live any closer to either of these underwater hotels, you can still expect to enjoy the ride as the company behind the Hydropolis and the Qingdao plan to build similar underwater hotels all around the world, such as London, Munich, Monaco, Isle of Man, and Ner York.
